Cette thèse interroge le processus de formation et de régulation de l’État moderne au prisme du système fiscal et des offices entre le xiie et le xviie siècle en France. Le cadre analytique de la thèse se situe au carrefour de la théorie de la régulation, de la socio-économie des marchés et de l’histoire économique et financière. La méthode qui structure cette thèse repose sur un travail d’archives et sur l’abduction. Les offices sont l’une des organisations étatiques centrales de la période et constituent aussi une délégation royale dans des domaines essentiels au fonctionnement de l’État, dont le recouvrement d’impôts. En analysant les transformations du cadre juridique des offices, la thèse montre que la régulation de l’État va de pair avec l’appropriation privée et la marchandisation de ces offices. La transformation des offices en actifs de patrimoine, durant cette période de transition entre la féodalité et le capitalisme, a pour effets une accumulation de richesses pour leurs propriétaires et une hausse des revenus royaux. This dissertation questions the process of formation and régulation – i.e., reproduction and modification – of the modern state through the taxation system and offices between the 12th and the 17th century in France. The analytical framework lies at the crossroad of Régulation Theory, market socio-economics, and economic and financial history. The method of this work is based on archival work and abduction. Offices are one of the main state organizations of that time and are also a royal delegation in essential state domains, including levying taxes. By analyzing the transformations of offices’ legal framework, the dissertation reveals that the regulation of state goes hand in hand with private appropriation and commodification of offices. The transformation of offices into patrimonial assets induces wealth accumulation for their owners and growth for royal revenues, during this period of transition between feudality and capitalism. |
