The main purpose and goal of this Master's Thesis is to research and discover different contributing factors such as gender, place of living, family socioeconomic status and parental socio cultural capital, as well as school achievements, motivation, self-perception in terms of abilities, and social pressures, on youth's educational opportunities and their attitudes and perceptions towards higher education. Attention was also put towards the impact of the pandemic crisis and the transitional process, on the formation of value prioritization, and perceived insecurities or frustrations that may come out of it. This paper consists of an array of secondary data found in the research and theoretical explanations of others, as well as qualitative data collected during a personal research venture in the form of focus groups conducted on a convenient sample of pupils that attend 8th grade in one of the Elementary schools in the City of Nasice. The combination of these findings can be used as an illustration of the complexity of the problems regarding educational opportunities and the process of forming the attitudes and perceptions of youth towards higher education. These findings could also inspire others to approach this subject in an intersectional way for future research, and for creating strategies that would provide equity in terms of access and positive attitude towards education as it would give them a chance to grow and develop as individuals, no matter the social position they started on according to different mitigating and aggravating circumstances. |
