The general objective of this research was to characterize the management conceptions of IFES-Campus Itapina and identify ideas and actions that approach democratic and participatory management. With the advent of Law 11,892 of 12/29/2008, which transformed the Federal Agrotechnical School of Colatina into one of the Campi of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Esp?rito Santo (IFES), called Campus Itapina, the management had to adapt the changes brought about by the new legislation. In the last 10 years, despite having practically the same infrastructure, there has been a significant increase in the number of students, courses and civil servants and, as a consequence, activities, projects, costs, problems and conflicts have also increased that demand effort for managers and other members of the school community. The initial concerns of the research focused on the point of view of the existing management practices at Ifes- Campus Itapina, given its current reality. Thus, we started with a macro analysis of the theoretical references in the area, from the conceptual point of view of educational management and democratic and participatory management, to support the process of characterizing the existing management at Ifes-Campus Itapina. The following are the theoretical and methodological frameworks that contributed to support the present investigation. From this basis, we sought to analyze through legal documents, the characterization of the management of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Esp?rito Santo through the description of its organizational structure, its historical landmark and that of the campuses that compose it. And more broadly, due to the focus of the research, we characterize the Campus Itapina through the description of its structural and management characteristics, through the official documents of the institution. At the end, we performed the analysis of the data collected from the applied questionnaire, resulting in the identification of several characteristics present in the management practiced on the Campus and several suggestions for improvements, brought by the employees participating in the research. The main contribution of the study was the possibility of socializing experiences and knowledge about the management of Ifes and Campus Itapina and the survey of possible management practices to improve their functioning. The deepening of the theme led to a reflection on the importance of democratic and participatory educational management for the Federal Institute of Esp?rito Santo and other educational institutions in the country O estudo caracterizou-se por uma pesquisa de natureza qualitativa e utilizando dados quantitativos, partindo de uma investiga??o de fontes bibliogr?ficas, documentais, observa??o de campo e question?rio tipo misto com quest?es abertas e fechadas. O objetivo geral da presente pesquisa foi caracterizar as concep??es de gest?o do IFES-Campus Itapina e identificar ideias e a??es que se aproximam da gest?o democr?tica e participativa. Com advento da Lei 11.892 de 29/12/2008, que transformou a Escola Agrot?cnica Federal de Colatina em um dos Campi do Instituto Federal de Educa??o, Ci?ncia e Tecnologia do Esp?rito Santo (IFES), denominado Campus Itapina, a gest?o teve que se adequar as altera??es trazidas pela nova legisla??o. Nos ?ltimos 10 anos, apesar de possuir praticamente a mesma infraestrutura, houve um acr?scimo expressivo na quantidade de alunos, cursos e servidores e como consequ?ncia tamb?m aumentaram as atividades, projetos, custos, problemas e conflitos que demandam esfor?o para os gestores e demais membros da comunidade escolar. As preocupa??es iniciais da pesquisa concentraram-se no ponto de vista das pr?ticas de gest?o existentes no Ifes-Campus Itapina, face ? sua realidade atual. Assim, partiu-se de uma an?lise macro dos referenciais te?ricos na ?rea, do ponto de vista conceitual da gest?o educacional e gest?o democr?tica e participativa, para embasar o processo de caracteriza??o da gest?o existente no Ifes-Campus Itapina. A seguir apresentaram-se os referenciais te?rico-metodol?gicos que contribu?ram para fundamentar a presente investiga??o. A partir deste embasamento, buscou-se analisar atrav?s de documentos legais, a caracteriza??o da gest?o do Instituto Federal de Educa??o, Ci?ncia e Tecnologia do Esp?rito Santo atrav?s da descri??o de sua estrutura organizacional, seu marco hist?rico e a dos campi que o comp?e. E de forma mais abrangente, devido ser o foco da pesquisa, caracterizamos o Campus Itapina atrav?s da descri??o das suas caracter?sticas estruturais e de gest?o, mediante os documentos oficiais da institui??o. Ao final, realizamos as an?lises dos dados coletados do question?rio aplicado, resultando na identifica??o de v?rias caracter?sticas presentes na gest?o praticada no Campus e diversas sugest?es de melhorias, trazidos pelos servidores participantes da pesquisa. A contribui??o principal do estudo foi a possibilidade de socializar experi?ncias e conhecimentos sobre a gest?o do Ifes e do Campus Itapina e o levantamento das poss?veis pr?ticas de gest?o para melhoria do seu funcionamento. O aprofundamento do tema levou a uma reflex?o sobre a import?ncia da gest?o educacional democr?tica e participativa para o Instituto Federal do Esp?rito Santo e demais Institui??es de ensino do pa?s
