The following project aims to inform early primary teachers in how to recognize and support young gifted and talented students using differentiated instruction in inclusive classrooms. The project examines the history of gifted education, and successful teaching strategies that are available to support, specifically, young gifted students to reach their fullest potential in inclusive classrooms. A discussion on the definition of giftedness is important as there are many misconceptions and conceptualizations surrounding gifted and talented students. Each province in Canada has its own definition, so it is essential that teachers working in British Columbia are familiar with that definition and the theories that inform it. I have created a workshop to provide teachers with pertinent knowledge on giftedness so they can improve their ability to identify gifted students in their classrooms and to use research-based strategies to support their gifted students. https://viurrspace.ca/bitstream/handle/10613/23199/ElsonProject.pdf?sequence=3 |
