In 2022, the pilot of the initiative 'Maai-Mei-Niet' took place in the Municipality of Groningen. This initiative means that part of the municipal lawns will not be mowed in May. The effect is that plants can bloom between the grass. In this way, insects such as bees, beetles and butterflies have easier access to the pollen and nectar of these flowers. In addition, longer grass is more resistant to drought and heat, so that water evaporates from the soil less quickly. Although successes were achieved with the introduction of the pilot, the implementation of Mei-Mei-Not internally and externally presented some issues. When we researched the reasons for these problems, we quickly found that much of this can be attributed to miscommunication. This report takes the communication regarding the 'Maai-Mei-Not' pilot as a case study and examines how the internal communication policy within Stadsbeheer can be improved. |
