Popis: This paper explores the ways in which gender can complicate discourses of LGBTI refugees - discourses that have largely centered the experiences of male refugees. Interest in the inclusion of sexual minorities in 21st century human rights discourses has resulted in a steadily growing body of literature. However, while these discussions give attention to LGBTI refugees, there is a notable lack of attention paid to women within this group. When considering LBQ women, I argue that it is crucial to understand the ways in which they determine ‘LGBTI-ness’ during the asylum process. In this paper, I discuss Jansen and Spijkerboer’s report “Fleeing Homophobia”, in which they attempt to establish an overview of LGBTI refugees in EU countries. This report highlights two axes that could potentially affect the cases of LBQ women: invisibility and stereotypes. Building from their arguments, I provide a review of scholarly discussions about LBQ women within the refugee regime from the fields of sociology and human geography. Finally, I examine a case in France using the literature reviewed. I conclude that the case in France mostly conforms to arguments from the prior literature, and that ‘indiscretion reasoning’ and ‘cultural taste’ can be confirmed as distinctive aspects.( 199 words)
