The purpose of this study was to reexamine the current state and issues regarding domestically held civic marathons, and to contribute to the advancement of regional sports societies and the revitalization of the local community. In many cases, the primary objective of civic marathons is to promote and sustain physical fitness with in the local community ranging from infants to seniors. In recent years, however, they have evolved into a means to reinvigorate the local community, led by regional authoritative bodies. As a result, its focus has come to place more priority on increasing the number of participants, and the emphasis on its original objective to promote the physical well-being of the local residents has become secondary. The originally intended state of a civic marathon is one that sees success as an injury-free competition, that endures over a long period of time based on the passion and support of the local community. |
