Popis: The purpose of this study is to examine relationship between current life attitudes of working people (N=1824) and parenting attitudes given in childhood. The results of a survey analysis suggested, first of all, that a certain degree of meddling in childhood from parents would help a child live an easier future working life while meddling beyond a certain limit would intensify the difficulty of his/her working life. The results also implied that, for parents, including as those who are verbally abusive or meddling or those who prioritize public image and vanity, who are generally exemplified as a type of “toxic parents,” not all of their words and behaviors would constitute toxic parent requirements but the exact opposite effects were given to their children depending on whether or not a certain threshold has been exceeded. Next, a logistic regression analysis was conducted, classifying parental attitudes into four categories according to the degree of [affection/support] and [intervention/interference] from the parent as perceived by the child. The results showed that, in the group with [Stronger sense of being loved/supported] and [Weaker sense of being intervened/interfered], the children showed positive results on almost all items including human relationship building and career development. Conversely, in the group with [Weaker sense of being loved/supported] and [Stronger sense of being intervened/interfered], the workers showed negative results. The children showed positive results in the order of parenting attitudes as follows: More Affectionate and Less Interventional > More Affectionate and More Interventional > Less Affectionate and Less Interventional > Less Affectionate and More Interventional. In other words, the overall trends of the odds ratios indicated that the positive results were obtained from parenting attitude in the order of: Watchful > Overprotective > Indifferent > Ruthless. It was implied that the closer the parental attitude was to ruthless., the more negative the child’s working life was in general. The above shows that the life attitude of working people is related, in part, to the parenting attitudes given in childhood. Workplaces may need to take some measures to deal with employees who are experiencing difficulties in life or mental problems due to inappropriate attitudes of their parents.
