This study reviews the project management challenges in the large European Funded project (ASSET-Road) which was coordinated by PTV AG. The project duration was 3.5 years and commenced in July 2008. Dr. Matti Kutila was the project manager at VTT, which is Europe's third largest applied research institute, and Mr. Rigobert Opitz was the technical coordinator of the entire ASSET-Road project. The major challenge was the sufficient amount of communication to maintain harmony in the research vision between the 19 partners. Two partners were non-European, from India and Tanzania. The balance between face-to-face meetings, phone conferences and emailing varied over the project lifetime. In addition, the budget share of the partners was different, which obviously influenced the project results |
