Popis: | Michigan State University was honored to host in-person the 27th Annual Midwest Microbial Pathogenesis Conference from 17 to 19 September 2021 in East Lansing, MI. Here, we report the precautions that were used to host a safe, in-person meeting during the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV2) pandemic and the research on microbial pathogenesis that was presented at the meeting. One of the most significant impacts of the SARS-CoV2 pandemic on the scientific community is the cancelation of many in-person scientific conferences. This has limited the ability of scientists, especially those who are early in their careers, to present their research and establish scientific networks and collaborations. Using a series of safety precautions, we describe here how we implemented a highly successful in-person meeting of 280 attendees in September 2021. Six of the research projects presented at this meeting are being published together in this issue of the Journal of Bacteriology. |
