Popis:	Mid-ocean ridges are the oceanic counterparts of continental graben structures. Both are zones of extension although mid-ocean ridges have substantially higher spreading rates and also mark plate boundaries where new oceanic crust and lithosphere are formed. The presence of normal faulting and development of a central graben document that as new crust is formed, it is still under extension as it drifts and spreads.
