Popis: In María de Montiel (1861), the first novel by a nineteenth-century Argentine woman writer, Mercedes Rosas, the destiny of heroes and heroines is always linked to national history. Following Doris Sommer’s critical perspective, it can be said that national formation and passionate love are mutually implicated in this text. Thus, Mar´ıa de Montiel can be read not only as a political contribution to the national project, but also as a female and federal perspective during the so-called period of National Organization in Argentina.
