Popis: Evidence suggests that Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is associated with local neurologic impairment and that some of the impairment may persist despite adequate treatment. The number of local neurogenic lesions that exist in a given subject is never well appreciated in the work-up of a patient with OSAS, despite the impact of such lesions on long-term results of therapeutic efforts. Development of specific tools to explore the severity and extension of the neurogenic impairment should be a clinical goal. Dentists and orthodontists should clearly incorporate an assessment of the upper airway in their general evaluation of the oral and dental development of young individuals as well as the routine dental examination of adults.
