This paper will present an automated method to optimize precision approaches with curved segments (A-RNP / RNP-AR) to minimize the noise pollution on the population. The results of this process will be shown for an example airport. Aircraft noise and its reduction have been subject to many studies and is still subject of many research efforts. This Paper will concentrate on approach procedures to mitigate the noise impact on residence around airports. While at some airports approach procedures already avoid highly populated areas more precise navigation systems enable complicated precision approaches. The ICAO Documents 8168 (Procedures for Air Navigation Services (PAN-OPS)) includes a description of Advanced Required Navigation Performance (A-RNP) since 2014. The described procedure allows the use of radius to fix legs. Thus aircraft could fly a precision approach including turns along a fixed path. The use of RF-legs is also allowed in ICAO document 9905 “Required Navigation Performance Authorization Required” (RNP AR)) published in 2009.In this paper these procedures will be used to optimize an approach procedure to minimize the noise impact on the population. |
