| Popis: | Reported here is the first case of the North American strain Yersinia enterocolitica serogroup O8, biotype 1B acting as a pathogen in Germany. The strain was isolated from the stool specimen of a 4-year-old boy who presented with persistent abdominal pain, fever and diarrhea accompanied by leukocytosis, anemia and an elevated sedimentation rate. The typical virulence characteristics identified in the isolated strain included the virulence plasmid pYV, the high pathogenicity island and mouse virulence. |
