Popis: | The sinusoidal loading of an elastic 2 and 3-dimensional half-space is analysed. Such loading arises from the study of rough lubricated contacts. The well-known plane strain solution for internal stresses in the 2-dimensional case is extended to the normal loading 3 dimensional case. However, for full 3-dimensional normal and tangential bi-sinusoidal loading cases a new stress function is proposed. By solving the elasticity equations with this new function the complete internal stress field can he calculated analytically. The method can be extended to any periodic loading case with the rise of Fourier decomposition and FFT techniques. In practice the method can also he used for non-periodic loading cases with a sufficiently large window size. The results show good agreement with a known solution.
