ALTHOUGH catheterization of the left side of the heart has provided necessary and significant information concerning lesions of the aortic and mitral valves, there has been an understandable concern about its associated morbidity and mortality. One worries about the dangers of bleeding from the atrium or the nearby vascular structures, which might be inadvertently entered.
