Popis: Thirty patients with abdominal aortic aneurysms were followed up for five years or until they died. Two patients died from rupture of the aneurysm, twenty-seven and twenty-three months from the date of diagnosis. These two patients had little evidence of other arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease and should have benefited from replacement of the aneurysm. Nine patients survived for several years with no apparent change in the aneurysms. Four of these patients had small aneurysms (5 cm. or less). The patients who had evidence of severe arteriosclerotic heart or cerebrovascular disease died of causes unrelated to the aneurysm. It is concluded that only those patients who have no serious concurrent vascular disease and whose aneurysm is 6 cm. or more in diameter should have aortic replacement. Such patients considered excellent risks constituted only two of the thirty patients with abdominal aortic aneurysms not operated upon in the Barnes Hospital between 1953 and 1960.
