Popis: The preamble of our constitution states that no discrimination should be practiced on the grounds of gender. But a stark difference exists between what is stated and the real world. To curb this gender inequality, women empowerment has emerged as an important tool. Women empowerment has been one of the prime concerns for the government, the policy makers, the social workers, and the researchers. Empowering women not only means treating women equally and providing them with equal opportunities, but it also means ensuring that women are aware and conscious of the opportunities and resources available for them. One way to ensure this is education and the present chapter talks about the vital role of education in taking ahead this process of empowering women. For which autobiographies/biographies (n=7) of influential women were analysed and women on high and important positions were interviewed (n=30). It was observed that education enabled women to express freely, take decisions in their personal as well as professional spheres of lives, and helped them in developing various skills.
