Popis:	Cet article retrace l'évolution de l’auteur en tant qu'intellectuel bilingue en Inde. Il décrit le contexte social et politique des Subaltern Studies et les négociations intellectuelles entre un élan modernisateur venant d'Occident et un élan populaire et démocratique issu du milieu social immédiat. Il situe aussi les études postcoloniales en Occident en rapport au programme intellectuel indien. My place in the Global Republic of Letters. – The paper traces the author’s evolution as a bilingual intellectual in India. It describes the social and political background of Subaltern Studies and the intellectual negotiations between a modernizing impulse derived from the West and a popular-democratic impulse arising from the immediate social milieu. It also situates postcolonial studies in the West in relation to the Indian intellectual agenda.
