Popis: Spontaneous remissions or even spontaneous cure of cancer represent medical „miracles“, which are a rare but scientifically valid phenomenon. Immuno-reactive, endocrine or antiangiogenetic regulatory mechanisms entailing cancer cell apoptosis play an important role in explanatory pathophysiological models of spontaneous remission. There is no clear evidence of a causal link of psychological, psychosocial or spiritual factors and practice to spontaneous remission. But every illness trajectory necessarily implies individual existential coping where individual control beliefs and subjective illness theories are important and become the base of different causal attributions for an exceptional course of a life threatening disease. Professional psychooncological support does not impose scientific reality interpretations but appreciates the patients' coping efforts. „Miracles“ represent an important topic for patients coping with a dismal cancer diagnosis. This hope-giving topic should not be depreciated by therapists but they should not in a „complicity of denial“ make it a dominating topic of their therapeutic interaction.
