Popis: | SUMMARY The purpose of this experiment was to examine the social behaviour of withdrawn and aggressive girls, taking gaze as the dependent measure. Twenty girls aged 12–15 years, half of them diagnosed as withdrawn and half aggressive, each took part in two video-taped conversations with an adult, one a “personal” conversation, the other “impersonal”. It was predicted, in line with previous research on withdrawn adults, that the withdrawn girls would gaze less than the aggressive group, but that the difference would be marked only in the personal conversation. Both hypotheses were supported, and the implications for our understanding of maladjustment and for research on gaze are discussed. |
