I appreciate Dr. Sathian's citation1 of my article2 but would suggest that Kim's findings3 could be interpreted as complementary rather than contradictory to mine. Our studies differed in that the lesions included in Kim's study did not include the parasagittal dorsomedial association areas and did not focus on tactile object recognition. In addition, my study was not restricted to patients with symptomatic sensory complaints. Parasagittal lesions disrupt spatiotemporal aspects of sensory and motor function whereas ventrolateral lesions cause tactile agnosia, a subtle but scientifically important disorder that, in my experience, rarely prompts symptomatic complaint.
