Popis: | Pigment was recognized by light microscopy in a biopsy specimen of liver from a patient with the Dubin-Johnson syndrome. By electron microscopy, the pigment corresponded to dense bodies which consisted of aggregates of osmiophilic dense materials intermixed with fine granular and globular material, measuring 0.9 to 3 µ in diameter. Histochemically, a strong acid phosphatase activity was present in portions of these dense bodies. This finding suggests hepatic lysosomal dysfunction as the possible pathogenesis of this disorder. |
