Popis: | Information and referral services provide a vital link in the delivery of health care in the United States today. However, relatively little is known about the exact nature of these services.1'2 At the University of Southern California School of Medicine, a research and development project, known as "SEARCH: A Link to Services," has been concerned with health information and referral services (HIRS) in Los Angeles County. This project has been exploring the feasibility of a comprehensive and integrated data system designed to supply providers with up-to-date information about sources of health care tailored to meet the individual needs of the consumers (clients and patients) whom they serve. It is expected that such a system will expedite the referral process, thereby enabling more consumers within the county to reach appropriate sources of health care. The survey reported here was conducted as part of the larger SEARCH project. The purpose of this survey was to assist in determining the compatibility of existing HIRS and the feasibility of linking these services into one computerized health services data system for Los Angeles County.
