Popis: For several reasons, relating to reliability, power segmentation and performance enhancement, it may be convenient for an induction motor to be supplied by two (if not more) three-phase inverters. The most common design solution for this purpose is the split-phase one, where the stator wining is split into two three-phase sections displaced by 30 electrical degrees apart, each fed by an inverter. An alternative possibility is explored in this paper where the two motor windings are not displaced and they are suitable for being fed by in-phase supply voltage systems. The solution has been implemented in a 13 MW induction motor drive. Its performance is reported in this paper based on measurements taken during system testing.
