Popis: Hipposideros cineraceus Blyth 1853 Ashy roundleaf bat New material 4♂♂ (MZB M26355/ 26744 / 26745 / 26772); 2♀♀ (MZB M26346 / 26354). Records from Borneo Sabah: Baturong, Danum Valley, Gu- nung Kinabalu, Madai, Maruda Bay, Sega- rong, Upper Sungai Kuamut (Payne et al., 2000). WestKal: Betung Kerihun NP (Hariuchi, 1999); Gunung Palung NP (Bhu- del, 1996); CenKal: Barito Ulu Research Area (D. Pio, unpublished data); East: Long Midang (Yasuma and Andau, 2000); Sungai Lesan PF (M. J. Struebig, unpub- lished data). Comments Several individuals were captured in the forest understorey at the Tabalar, Baai and Marang formations. This species was also captured in harp-traps set at cave entrances of Gua Ambulabung at Baai and Gua Sungai at Marang, but only a few individuals were captured suggesting that colony sizes were small. Specimens fol- low descriptions in Hill (1963) based on skull morphology, and noseleaf appearance which has an internarial septum slightly expanded in the middle, but, like H. ater it is probable that several taxa with- in this current species exist over its range (see the section for H. ater). There are few records of this cave-roosting species in Borneo with only Sabah and the coastal wetlands between the Katingan and Kahayan rivers in Central Kalimantan included in the SAMD distribution maps. This study extends the known range in Borneo southwards by over 350 km, and together with other Kalimantan records suggests that this species is more widely dis- tributed than the published literature suggests.
