This study will assess the current skill requirements of jobs within the UK environmental sector. Specifically, the web scraping tool ParseHub will be used to extract data from the job site Indeed UK. The data extracted from Indeed UK will include the skills and experience required by UK employers within the environmental sector at all levels, from entry-level to senior level. Indeed UK not only allows employers to advertise vacant positions, but it also collates job adverts from thousands of other websites. Thus, the jobs advertised on Indeed UK are likely to represent a representative sample of current job vacancies. The results will inform the content of undergraduate degree programmes taught in the School of Geography, Geology and Environment at Keele University. The overarching aim is to increase the employability of our ecology, geography and environmental science graduates. Ideally, the survey outlined below will be repeated annually to keep track of the changing skill requirements of the UK environmental job sector. |
