MENDOZA: Malarge, Mirador de Valle Hermoso, 5-II-2000, M. spinosum (ARG-543); Malarge, Ranquil Norte, 26-I-2003, M. spinosum (ARG- 954); Malarge, Refugio Club Andino, 4-II-2000, M. spinosum (ARG-532), & 13-III-2 0 0 3, M. spinosum (ARG- 950); NEUQUEN: Epulauquen, 6-XII-1998, M. spinosum (ARG-252), & 25-I-2000, M. spinosum (ARG-492); Hualcupn, 27-I-2003, M. spinosum (ARG-959); Lago Tromen, 23-I-2000, M. spinosum (ARG-462); Nahuel Huapi, 14-XIII-2009, M. spinosum (ARG-1677); Paso de Pino Hachado, 12-XII-2009, M. spinosum (ARG-1590); Puerto Huemul, 21-I-2000, M. spinosum (ARG-422); San Martn de los Andes, Bandurria, 22-I-2000, M. spinosum (ARG-438); Zapala, 24-I-2000, Mulinum sp. (ARG-472, ARG-476); RIO NEGRO: Dina Huapi, 19-I-2000, M. spinosum (ARG-383); San Carlos de Bariloche, Lago Gutirrez, 4-XII-2009, M. spinosum (ARG-1305). The majority of apterous viviparous females studied, including the type series, have no marginal tubercles on abdominal segment 2 to 6; whereas specimens of samples ARG-252 and ARG-492 (Neuquen, spring) have marginal tubercles, and specimens of sample ARG-383 (Rio Negro, summer) show marginal cuticular elevations. The absence or presence of marginal tubercles on intermediate abdominal segments and their respective size are frequently a good taxonomic character to differentiate related species, for example Aphis senecionicoides (Blanchard, 1944) from A. papillosa Mier Durante, Nieto Nafra & Ortego, 2003, but this may be only a manifestation of intraspecific variability (Mier Durante et al., 2003), as specimens with and without marginal tubercles are very similar in quantitative and in other qualitative characters. The species was previously known only in Mendoza, Rio Negro and Chubut provinces; so Neuquen is now added to its distribution (Fig. 1).
