Popis: | SUMMARY The incidence of geriatric ankle fractures is increasing in step with the current aging population. Special considerations must be taken into account when treating geriatric patients due to increased medical comorbidities, worse soft tissue envelope, poor bone quality, and the needs for early mobilization. The orthopaedic surgeon must have a variety of surgical options to treat fractures in the elderly population based on patient-specific needs. This article uses a case-based approach to discuss relevant considerations when selecting between hindfoot fusion nail and robust open reduction and internal fixation for geriatric ankle fractures. |
