Popis: | Forty-two cases of poststapedectomy granulomas were investigated in regard to etiological factors. Histologic sections were studied by a variety of techniques after the discovery of a high incidence of refractile foreign particles. Forty cases contained retractile particles of similar optic, physical, and chemical characteristics. Similar particles were found in abundance in Ringer solution routinely used during stapedectomies. The evidence suggests that foreign body contamination may play a role in a substantial number of poststapedectomy granulomas. |
