Popis: | Differentiating osteolysis and osteomyelitis is a formidable challenge for even the most experienced clinician. Although the two may have a similar presentation, the treatment regimen, morbidity, and long term prognosis for the patient are vastly dissimilar. The diagnosis of osteomyelitis carries with it a need for immediate and decisive action that may include early aggressive amputation. Conversely, the diagnosis of osteolysis necessitates a patient, conservative approach so as not to "burn any bridges", and to allow time for the affected part to heal. |
