Sorption isotherms of butane and 1-butene on zeolite type and N-A (α,ZK4), ion-exchanged with Na + and Ca 2+ , in the temperature range 323–473 K for partial pressures between 1 Pa and 20 kPa, were measured by gas-elution-chromatography. Distinct differences in the sorption properties towards these two hydrocarbons are found indicative of the dominant role of the cations in the adsorption process. A satisfactory interpretation of the equilibrium data on the basis of theoretical model isotherms is possible over limited concentration ranges. Changes in the isosteric heats of sorption are correlated with the nature, charge and number of the cations inside the zeolite cavities. |
