This paper presents a summary of the activities developed and results obtained during studies performed to determine in situ the transport and dispersion characteristics of Paraibuna River using fluorescent tracers. Two field campaigns were performed for different flows, using fluorescent dyes, Uranine or Sodic Fluorescein (Acid Yellow 73, Color Index 45350) and Amidorhodamine G Extra (Acid Red 52, Color Index 45220) injected instantaneously into the Paraibuna River close to the Industrial District of Juiz de Fora. The reach studied, 27 km long, located between Industrial District I and Marmelos Zero Hydropower Plant, was monitored, collecting water samples at each of the four control sections, in order to determine the temporal variations of tracer concentrations (Passage Curves) along the river. The dispersion and transport parameters were determined using the Taylor Model.
