Popis: Loeseneriella obtusifolia (Roxb.) A.C. Smith and Cassine glauca (Rottb.) Kuntze are highly valued for their economic and medicinal properties. The petroleum ether, ethyl acetate, ethanol, and water extracts from mature leaves of both plants were screened individually for their chemical constituents and antibacterial activity. Water extract of both plants possess maximum phytochemical constituents followed by ethanol and ethyl acetate. Ethanol extracts of L. obtusifolia and C. glauca was active against the tested pathogenic bacteria. The strongest minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was observed against Staphylococcus aureus and Corynebacterium sp. at 0.250 mg mL-1 of the L. obtusifolia and C. glauca ethanol leaf extract, respectively. The antibacterial potential of the plants was then compared with positive (tetracycline) and negative (dimethyl sulfoxide) controls.
