CW iodine laser performance of t-C4F9I under closely-simulated air-mass-zero solar pumping

Popis: | The irradiance from a dc solar-simulator source was modified in order to closely-simulate the air-mass-zero (AMO) solar spectrum in the absorption band of the iodides t-C4F9I and n-C3F7I. With this modification, the output power of the t-C4F9F laser was measured to be approximately four times that of n-C3F7I for the iodide pressures below 12 Torr. This increase agrees with the previously reported result with a pulsed laser system. A maximum output power of 46 W at a pressure of 6.5 Torr was achieved with the t-C4F9I laser system, which is to our knowledge the highest reported output from a CW photodissociation iodine laser to date. The significant increase of the laser system efficiency comes from the photochemical kinetics favorable to the pump source spectrum and chemical reversibility of the iodide t-C4F9I. |
