Popis: Previous data suggested the existence of a relation between soil genotoxic effects and atmospheric fallout predictable on the basis of the prevailing wind direction and involving areas located at a distance of one Km from the incineration plant. The same soils were collected four times per year in order to confirm the relation between soil mutagenicity and incinerator emissions and to evaluate the persistence time of the genotoxic substances while the plant was not operating. Samples were tested on TA98 and TA100 strains of Salmonella typhimurium and on the diploid strain D7 of Saccharomyces cerevisiae with and without metabolic activation. The data reveal a wide variety of results which can be related to different soil location and the fallout pattern of incineration emissions. The evaluation of the “environmental genetic risk”; needs a screening system which points out the persistence time in the environment and the different genetic targets (point mutation, repair system mutation, extranuclear mutation...
