Interconnection of utility-scale solar projects are becoming more popular on distribution systems. As consumers gain more interest in these larger solar farms, solar that is utility owned versus customer owned is expected to have a much larger market share than in the past. The drivers are meeting customer expectations and increasing customer satisfaction, having control over generation sources for system operations and reliability, and meeting power supply portfolio requirements. These reasons are much of why Hoosier Energy, a generation and transmission provider in Indiana, started a program to place ten one megawatt solar sites on their member distribution systems. This paper focuses on specifics for one of the selected sites and the power system study performed to determine impacts to the cooperative distribution system. |
