Evidence for aπηResonance at 970 MeV Produced inK−p→Λπ+π−MM at 3.9, 4.6, and 5.0 GeV/c

Popis: Evidence is presented for the existence of a boson resonance ($\ensuremath{\delta}$) with $M=970\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}15$ MeV and $\ensuremath{\Gamma}l~50$ MeV produced in the reaction ${K}^{\ensuremath{-}}p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{+}(1385){\ensuremath{\delta}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$, ${\ensuremath{\delta}}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\eta}$. By studying the ${\ensuremath{\delta}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ produced in association with ${\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{+}(1385)$, we are able to rule out possible kinematic effects as a source of the enhancement in our data. We give upper limits to other decay modes such as $2\ensuremath{\pi}$, $3\ensuremath{\pi}$, and $K\overline{K}$.
