Popis: | This paper proposes a new approach to spatial data generalisation using object-oriented techniques. The Object Modelling Technique (OMT) (Rumbaugh 1991) is adopted in this approach. Detailed procedures for adopting the OMT methodology for modelling spatial data are given using diagrams, and implementation of the object-oriented (OO) modelling is demonstrably specified using the popular OO programming language C++. The advantages of using an OO approach over traditional relational models are discussed as is how its implementation presents a practical solution to the problem of spatial data generalisation in GIS. Moreover, by using the Object Model and Dynamic Model of OMT, the relationships between different feature classes can be examined and the generalisation processes analysed. |
