Summary A new heat transfer measurement technique utilizing the Temperature Sensitive Paint (TSP) method is described. The TSP technique has been demonstrated to be effective, low cost, and applicable over a wide range of flows. The use of any heat transfer measurement system requires generation of a heat flux to drive the heat transfer. This often complicates tunnel operation and model construction. The new system developed at Purdue University combines temperature measurement and heat flux generation into a single non-intrusive system. An infrared laser is used to generate a heat flux and convective heat transfer is determined from the surface temperature response measured using the TSP technique. The operation of the system has been demonstrated in several qualitative and quantitative experiments. |
