Summary Marine vibrators were compared to conventional (airgun and dynamite) sources in a transition zone test. The test was designed to investigate the potential uplifts from both simultaneous sweep separation and High Fidelity Vibratory Seismic (HFVS) processing. The low peak pressure output of the marine vibrator makes it an ideal source for environmentally sensitive areas. Results show: • marine vibrator data to be of comparable quality to data acquired with conventional sources • sweeps designed for separation can provide a cost effective way to increase spatial sampling resulting in better imaging, more effective statics estimation and improved noise reduction. • HFVS processing can be used to treat harmonic energy and provide wavelet stability. |
