Delirium is a neurocognitive disorder. Cognitive fluctuation (i.e. variability within minutes, hours, or days) and deficits in attention characterise delirium. We aim to determine if cognitive variability and deficits in attention, as compared to performance within other cognitive domains, characterise vulnerability to developing delirium. Very little has been written about the neuropsychological profile of the disorder. While cognitive impairment is an established risk factor for incident delirium, the risk of impairment within individual cognitive domains has not been systematically assessed previously through a meta-analysis. |
