The objective of this chapter is to analyze the Bolsa Familia program, and related policies, from the perspective of feminist theories on gender justice. The central argument presented is that the program’s lack of concern with gender issues and relations, besides having negative consequences for women, prevents the advancement of one of its central objectives, namely promoting human development. The analysis relies on secondary and primary research data as well as on my experience as a policy advisor at the ministry responsible for implementing this program. |
