Popis: | SummaryEndometrial biopsy specimens from 73 women presenting with either primary (n = 12) or secondary (n = 61) infertility were examined bacteriologically and histologically for evidence of acute or chronic endometritis. All specimens were sterile on culture for routine aerobic and anaerobic pathogens and showed no evidence of endometritis histologically. High vaginal cultures yielded only bacterial flora similar to that of fertile control patients. Routine culture of genital tract specimens in the evaluation of infertile women is unhelpful. The risk of hysterosalpingography or a transcervical dye test being complicated by dissemination of quiescent sepsis from endometrium or vagina is small. |
