Popis: | Sanious pus taken from an intra-oral abscess may be composed of mixed aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms, and may require a week for bacteriologic identification of these strains. The production of volatile fatty acids occurs with primary metabolic activity of anaerobic bacteria. In the present study, volatile fatty acids of pus were analysed by gas liquid chromatography and compared with organisms isolated by commonly used cultural methods.Direct gas liquid chromatographic analysis of clinical specimens provides a rapid presumptive assessment for the presence of anaerobic microorganisms. It would be an appropriate monitoring of life-threatening infections. |
