Springtime feature of the seasonal behavior of near-ground ultraviolet radiation in certain regions of Russia

Popis: Based on satellite data of the near-ground ultraviolet radiation (UVR) taken by the TOMS instrument onboard the Earth Probe satellite, as well as the data of the aerosol optical depth and atmospheric moisture content obtained with the help of ground-based Aerosol Robotic Network (Aeronet) stations, we analyzed the springtime features of the variations of the near-ground UVR on some of the territory of Russia (near Yekaterinburg, Tomsk, Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, and Yakutsk) in terms of the UVR deviations from the well-defined seasonal behavior caused by the solar elevation. Data for the period of 1997–2003 have been analyzed. The possible mechanisms behind the observed specific feature in the UVR variations are discussed.
