Popis: | The isotopic separation coefficient α HD and the equilibrium (or plateau) pressure p eq of hydrogen and deuterium in equilibrium with palladium were measured at 298 K. The dependence of α HD and p eq on the composition of the gas phase was determined from absorption and desorption batch experiments. A simple thermodynamic model allows one to predict α HD and p eq on the basis of (1) the isotopic exchange equilibrium constants, (2) the plateau pressures of the pure isotopes, and (3) the composition. The reliability of the thermodynamic model for predicting the chromatographic separation of a binary mixture is discussed briefly. |
