Popis: | During the mid- to late-1970s, the USA attempted to improve levels of air quality and, simultaneously, to increase the consumption of coal. Both of these goals were achieved, but at the expense of significant changes in the patterns of coal production and distribution, particularly in six eastern and midwestern states that have large reserves of high-sulphur coal. An argument is made that much of the improvement in air quality is directly attributable to the reduced consumption of high-sulphur coal, and present levels of air quality are tied closely to current patterns of consumption. |
