Population density modulation in a positive column He-Se+laser discharge

Popis: Variation of the spontaneous emission from neutral He excited levels and upper Se+ laser levels with opposite phase has been observed as a result of 100% modulation of the oscillation of a positive column He-Se+ laser in a synchronous detection experimental setup. Qualitative explanation of this effect is proposed based on analysis of the modulation of the population density of the excited levels. Most likely the modulation phase of the lower Se+ laser levels population density is transferred to the excited helium atoms by intermediate modulation of the electron number density in the positive column.
